Two-hand controls

Protection against electrical hazards

For test benches that perform functional or high-voltage testing without a test hood or test probes, a two-hand start must be used.

This accessory is compatible with your SCHLEICH testing device. Please note that it can only be purchased in combination with a SCHLEICH testing device.

In some cases, large test objects may not fit inside a test chamber. Nevertheless, the test may still need to be performed using hazardous test voltage and without appropriate current limiting measures.

Examples of this include:

If the test, which poses a hazard to persons, cannot be performed using safety test guns, a two-hand control system must be used. In this case, two control elements (pushbuttons) must be actuated synchronously with both hands within a time interval of 0–0.5 seconds. Operation of the control elements with one hand or with other body parts is prevented by sufficient spacing, partitions, or other design measures.

An evaluation unit approved by the employers' liability insurance association continuously monitors whether this condition is being met. If it is, the evaluation unit triggers the test device to start. As a rule, both two-hand control buttons must be held down continuously throughout the entire test. Releasing a control element prematurely will cause the test to be aborted.

By design, a two-hand control system protects only the person operating it. Therefore, additional measures, such as barriers, are recommended.

The two-hand control is mounted on a stand here. During the test, personnel must maintain a safe distance.
