The automatic testing process

GLP2-BASIC the lightweightWindows® Embedded operating system. You always have a clear overview of all relevant test results. The clear display of the test sequence enables structured and highly efficient work.

In automatic mode, the tests are performed semi-automatically or fully automatically. The tests proceed step by step in a fully automated manner between all measurement terminals connected to the test object.

If, for example, the operator needs to manually scan individual measurement points on the test object using a probe, the process is interrupted and a notification message appears. This interruption lasts until the operator has completedthe manualtask. The test then continuesfully automatically. The test results are automatically evaluated and clearly displayed.

The test sequence can be modified simply by adding or removing test steps. This allows the test sequence to be optimally adapted to various requirements. Each individual test step can be configured separately using test parameters.

The comprehensive integrated user management system ensures that only authorized individuals can make these changes.

The input

To edit the test steps, simply select them. The test parameters can be easily modified, and the test sequence can be adapted to the test task. All entries are automatically checked for validity. There is no need to use a cumbersome test plan editor. For each test parameter, informative explanations can be displayed by clicking the question mark button.

The test parameters are visible to all operators, but can only be changed by authorized personnel.

The data

GLP2 stores test plans and test results either locally or on a shared network drive on the company network. We recommend connecting the test devices to the network.

This has the following advantages:

  • All test devices on the network access the same test plans.
  • All testers test according to the same specifications.
  • Centralized data storage for all inspection systems within a global network makes it easier for you to ensure the quality of your products worldwide. Regardless of location.
  • Test plans can be viewed and edited on PC workstations regardless of the testing equipment.
  • Test results can be displayed, analyzed, and printed at computer workstations.

The scripts

The scripting language provides an easy-to-understand and very powerful tool for customizing and tailoring the GLP2 to specific needs.

This offers the following advantages:

  • Customizations by the user
  • Sequence control, as in a PLC
  • Adaptation to complex barcode content
  • and much more

The manual check

GLP2-BASIC you with access to all integrated test methods individually—as if you had a separate testing device for virtually every test method.

No test plan is required to use the unique manual mode. The operator simply selects the desired test method and starts the tester.

The most important measurement values are displayed in large digits. The other settings are also clearly displayed. This feature is unique. It is ideal for testing in the lab or at the repair station.

Manual mode

Select the desired test method and start the measurement. To finish, stop the measurement.

However, no comparison with threshold values is performed. Instead, the measured values and the set test conditions are displayed continuously.

During the measurement, the test parameters can be adjusted via the touchscreen. This is a major advantage. As a result, your test specimen is continuously exposed to the test conditions. You can put it through its paces and subject it to stress for as long as you like.

Not only can test conditions such as test voltage and test current be adjusted, but the displayed actual values and their physical units can also be switched to suit the desired analysis.

For testers with multiple test ports, the test methods can be switched to the available test ports in exactly the same way as during an automatic test sequence. It doesn’t get any better than this, as manual measurements can thus be performed between any test ports. The test ports are conveniently selected via the touchscreen. The integrated relay matrix handles the switching.

Automatic test method switching and mechatronics

Testing technology from SCHLEICH has proven itself time and again in daily use. It ranks among the most reliable products on the market and offers high utility value thanks to its outstanding performance and accuracy.

To save time, all connections on the test object can be made using a contact adapter. The tester then performs the specified tests fully automatically without any manual intervention. This is made possible by SCHLEICH’s signature automatic test method switching.

For test objects with multiple connections, it is more cost-effective to connect all of the test object’s connections to the test equipment immediately. The test equipment then performs all tests between all connection points fully automatically. This approach reduces the required clock rate and thus the cost of a test. Switching between the various connections is achieved using flexible switching matrices.

To minimize the time required to connect a test object with numerous connections, we implement the frequently requested dual-station or multi-station systems. In these systems, loading and unloading take place at one station while testing is performed simultaneously at the other stations. This approach enables highly cost-effective results even for complex and extensive tests.

Test method switching

Depending on the type and scope of the test methods, we offer a wide range of switching options. These ensure a quick and automatic switch between the various test methods. Since the voltage differences between test methods can be very large, safety is our top priority during switching operations. A resistance test at 3 V is switched to the test object just as reliably as a high-voltage test at 6000 V. To protect your employees and the test object. And without compromise! That is why we use only high-quality components for switching circuits and matrices—components that have been proven thousands of times over, either from our own production or from renowned manufacturers.

Dies

We offer the right relay matrix for virtually any application. The matrices differ in the number of connections and the test voltage they can switch. A matrix must switch 6000 V just as safely and reliably as it does millivolt signals. That is exactly why our engineers developed these matrices. The matrices are designed for two- and four-wire applications. They can be daisy-chained to increase the number of connections as needed. Matrices with more than 100 connection points are not uncommon. The same principle applies to matrices as to test method switches: only the highest quality components are used.

Station switching

Instead of using two or more test units, station switching can be a cost-effective alternative, for which we also impose the highest safety requirements. While testing is underway at one test station, the other test station is being charged or discharged. In doing so, the operator inevitably comes into contact with terminals and connecting cables. Touching the terminals and connecting cables poses a potential electrical hazard. Therefore, the test leads to the stations where no test is currently in progress must be safely disconnected. In addition, it is recommended to ground the connections to the test object.

Mechatronics | Script Control

In addition to the hardware, the software also offers tremendous flexibility. Using the built-in script commands, you can implement additional PLC functions in the test device. Just as with a PLC, you can read inputs, set outputs, and create logical connections.

Your economic advantage: The test device directly controls mechatronic processes, often eliminating the need for external controllers. Whether it’s switching valves, reading limit switches, or evaluating internal measurement data—the device acts as a central control unit before, during, and after the test. This is ideal for cost-effective in-house designs as well as integration into automated production lines.

Test Methods

Leakage current test

The leakage current test is performed in conjunction with the functional test. During this test, the tester can set the test voltage to, for example, 110% of the rated voltage. The test verifies that the leakage current from conductors L and N to PE (ground leakage current) or to insulated parts of the enclosure (enclosure leakage current) is not excessive. The leakage current must not exceed the maximum current specified in the standards. To test the housing leakage current, the operator uses the test probe to scan the housing parts to be tested one after another.

Leakage current measurement is performed in accordance with standards using special test circuits (MDs). These are available in a wide variety of models to suit a broad range of applications and standards (e.g., EN, UL).

The equivalent leakage current test is performed without the functional test. A relatively low AC voltage is applied to the conductors, and a check is made to ensure that the leakage current from conductors L and N to PE (earth leakage current) is not excessive. The leakage current flowing during this test is extrapolated to the leakage current that would flow at rated voltage. The leakage current must not exceed the maximum current specified in the standards.

The substitute leakage current tests are also referred to as the “alternative method” in the standards.

The Test Report

All test results can be printed on the modern standard report either immediately after the test or at a later time. The language of the report can be selected individually before it is generated. Reporting is performed in accordance with IEC 61934. The standard languages available are German, English, Chinese, Danish, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Slovenian, Spanish, Czech, and Hungarian.

The test report shown here is an example; it displays a report from a multifunction tester.

GLP2-BASIC Network

Test plans and test results can be stored locally or, alternatively, on a central network drive. This ensures a high level of data security and facilitates the seamless exchange of test plans between different testing systems.

Even in its basic configuration, the GLP2-BASIC network-ready. This feature provides the ideal platform for collecting, managing, analyzing, and distributing information.

With an optional technology package, GLP2-BASIC offers the ability to integrate into a complex enterprise environment and can be connected to ERP, PPS, MES, and CAQ systems. We offer proven, configurable solutions to meet these requirements.

network outage

Each testing device automatically saves local copies of the current server test plan database so that it can continue operating in the event of a network outage.

In the event of a network outage, the local test plans are used and the test results are saved locally on the test device.

Once the network connection is restored, the testing device automatically sends the test results back to the server, ensuring that the server database is up to date.

Comprehensive global network for test equipment with a technology package

The testing devices can be operated in network topologies of any complexity. You can install an unlimited number of testing devices at various company locations worldwide and connect them to the central network drive. Our experience in the global networking of testing devices gives you the assurance that you will maintain the same product quality regardless of the production location. Problems with revising test plans are now a thing of the past.

Of course, all tasks related to test plans, printing, labeling, and statistics can also be performed on the individual test devices. However, to avoid disrupting the production process, it makes sense to use separate workstations for these tasks in networked systems.

The editor&printer PC software can therefore be installed on various workstations.

Label templates can also be stored centrally on a network drive. The testing device then loads the appropriate template based on the test plan and prints the labels after the test. Storing the templates centrally on the network drive ensures that all connected testing devices always use the same label template.

If remote maintenance is necessary, we can temporarily connect to your network and access the specific testing device directly. We can see the device’s screen in real time. With your permission, we would also have access to the mouse and keyboard. These capabilities are ideal for providing expert support. Of course, remote maintenance is only possible with your authorization.

PC software editor and printer

Edit test plans

Test plans are often created directly on the testing device. Alternatively, test plans can be managed, edited, and saved on a PC using theeditor&printer software, which is included free of charge with the device. Creating test plans on a PC has the advantage of not disrupting ongoing production. Work can continue on the testing devices. The software interface on the PC is similar to that on the testing device. As a result, operation is virtually identical and therefore easy to learn.

The software is used in two modes:

  •     Data transfer via USB flash drive | Offline operation
  •     Data exchange via PC network | Online operation

Printing Test Results

The software makes it easy to create and print test reports. To do this, import the test results from a testing device, filter them according to the tests you want to print, and generate detailed, easy-to-read reports.
