The comThe BOX includes both the standard connections to the luminaire (mains and dimming connections) as well as a variety of industry-standard interfaces for communication with the ECG in the luminaire.

Testing equipment in the GLP2-BASIC GLP2-MODULAR classes is typically GLP2-MODULAR for testing luminaires. These testers have a test connection socket on the back. The smart comBOX is connected to this port. It automatically connects via Plug & Play to communicate with the test device. No additional configuration is required on the user’s part. This also makes it very easy to retrofit a comBOX at a later date.
Depending on the test task, there are 6 comBOX models with different performance levels are available.
First, a light fixture must be connected to a power source. This can be single-phase, two-phase, or three-phase. To do this, all comBOXes provide 5 mains connections. The single-phase test voltage supplied by the test set is internally converted in the comBOX is automatically routed to the luminaire’s mains connection L1, L2, or L3.
Modern lighting fixtures are typically equipped with dimmable electronic ballasts. Two dimming terminals on the electronic ballast are typically used to set the dimming level. Communication via various bus protocols takes place through these terminals (DA1 and DA2). The bus protocol can be selected directly in the test plan.
In addition to dimming, data exchange with the electronic ballast (EVG/ECG) is also possible. To this end, the tester can be used both to save the luminaire’s configuration parameters in the EVG/ECG and to read out all information stored in the EVG/ECG. The freely programmable interface protocol is highly flexible and meets virtually every requirement. The tester’s software allows all available DALI commands to be used and combined in any way.
In addition to communicating with the ballast via the various interfaces, the comBOX also allows you to check any through-wiring present in the luminaire. This wiring can have a maximum of 7 wires. The through-wiring is checked for breaks and reverse polarity.
If a high-voltage test is also to be performed on the luminaire, the comThe BOX can be equipped to withstand high voltage.
The comThe BOXes can be equipped with LEDs and control buttons. The LEDs indicate the status of communication with the ECG. The control buttons can be used for control/acknowledgment during the test sequence.

The comThe BOX provides up to 7 connections for the luminaire. These connections supply mains voltage and enable communication with the electronic ballast. In addition, 7 more connections are available as an option if a continuity test is to be performed on the internal wiring of the luminaire.
During the manufacturing of electronic ballasts (EVG/ECG), it may also be necessary to flash the integrated microcontroller with firmware. This function can also be handled entirely by the test device.
