Test Method

turn-to-turn fault

The turn-to-turn test can be performed together with the surge voltage test or with a turn-to-turn test probe. With the MotorAnalyzer or the surge testers MTC2 and MTC3 turn-to-turns can be ideally detected.

Measurement of short circuit between turns with surge voltage

The turn-to-turn test is ideal for detecting turn-to-turn faults and insulation faults in windings. No other test method supplies test results on the insulation of a winding system for a similar quality.

This test can also be extended by a partial-discharge test.

Owing to the automatic evaluation methods of the test results, this tester is ideally suited for testing within automatic or manual production lines.

The surge impulse is created by an extremely fast parallel switching of a loaded capacitor to the winding to be tested.

After connecting the capacitor the stored energy is discharged into the inductivity and then back into the capacitor, etc. Attenuation losses, etc. result in a sinusoidal reduced sympathetic oscillation. It has a frequency that is characteristic for the inductivity to be tested and a typical amplitude characteristic.

Locating shorted windings with a measuring probe

In this process, a measuring probe is moved from slot to slot around the stator or rotor and the measured values are recorded. The measured value should be approximately the same for all grooves. Otherwise there is an error.
With this method the local position of a defective stator coil can be located.
