Two-Hand Operation

Protection against electrical hazards

A two-hand start should always be used for test stations with functional or high-voltage tests carried out without test covers or test probes.

Perfectly fits your SCHLEICH tester – please note that our two-hand controls can only be purchased in combination with a SCHLEICH tester.

Description

Increased operator protection.

Test benches with function- and high-voltages test which are operated without test cover and test probes should mandatorily be equipped with a 2-hand start start option.

It may occur, that bigger test objects may not be placed under a test cover. Nevertheless, the test is to be performed with dangerous test voltage without safety current limiting.

Examples are

  • Large motors
  • Cabinets
  • Large transformers

In case the dangerous test may not be performed with e.g. safety test probes, the 2-hand operation is recommended.
For this, two buttons are to be activated synchronously with both hands and within a time frame of 0-0,5 sec.
Activating the operating elements with only one hand or other parts of the body is prevented by the respective distance, separating walls or other constructive walls.

An evaluation device, integrated in the tester and approved by the Berufsgenossenschaft (employer’s accident insurance institution), permanently checks, if this condition is fulfilled. If so, the device triggers the start of the tester. Normally, both buttons have to be pressed during the entire test time. Premature release of a button leads to immediate interruption of the test.
Due to it´s construction, the 2-hand start only protects the operating person. That is why we recommend further safety measures like barriers for example.
