The comBOX includes both the typical Connection to the luminaire (mains and dimming Connection) and a variety of market-standard interfaces for communication with the EVG/ECG in the luminaire.

For the testing of luminaires, test devices of the GLP2-BASIC and GLP2-MODULAR device class are typically used. These test devices have a test connection socket on the rear side. The intelligent comBOX is connected to this socket. It connects automatically via Plug & Play for communication with the test device. No additional configuration work is necessary on the operator's side. This also makes later retrofitting of a comBOX very simple.
Depending on the test task, 6 comBOX models with different capabilities are available.
First, a luminaire must be supplied with voltage. This can be single-phase, two-phase, or three-phase. For this purpose, all comBOXes provide 5 mains connections. The single-phase test voltage supplied by the test device is automatically switched internally within the comBOX to either the luminaire mains connection L1, L2, or L3.
Modern luminaires are typically equipped with dimmable EVGs. For setting the dimming level, two dimming connections are typically used on the EVG. Communication via various bus protocols takes place through these connections (DA1 and DA2). The bus protocol can be selected directly in the test plan.
In addition to dimming, data exchange with the EVG/ECG is also possible. With the test device, both the luminaire setting parameters can be stored in the EVG/ECG and all information stored in the EVG/ECG can be read out. The freely programmable interface protocol is very flexible and leaves little to be desired. The test device software allows all available DALI commands to be used and combined in any way.
In addition to communication with the ballast via the various interfaces, the comBOX also offers the possibility to check any existing through-wiring in the luminaire. This can be a maximum of 7-core. The through-wiring is checked for interruption and reverse polarity.
If a high voltage test is also to be run on the luminaire, the comBOX can be equipped for high voltage testing.
The comBOXes can be supplemented with LEDs and control buttons. The LEDs indicate the status of communication with the EVG. The control buttons can be used for control/acknowledgement in the test sequence.

The schematic diagram shows a GLP2-BASIC or GLP2-MODULAR connected to a comBOX.
The comBOX provides up to 7 connections for the luminaire. These connections supply mains voltage and enable communication with the EVG. Additionally, another 7 connections are optionally available if a continuity test is to be run on the through-wiring in the luminaire.
During the manufacturing of EVG/ECG, it may also happen that the built-in microcontroller needs to be flashed with firmware. This function can also be fully taken over by the test device.
