Luminaire Testing

Luminaire Testing Made Easy: The All-in-One Solution for Your Testing Tasks

The lighting industry has undergone the far-reaching technological change of recent years – LED technology is now the standard. Current challenges arise from the light source and the increasing complexity of the electronics used.

Modern electronic control units (ECGs/ECGs/LED drivers) have a variety of interfaces and support different protocols for lighting control. This significantly increases the requirements for flexible, reproducible and expandable test scenarios in luminaire production.

In addition to the classic safety and functional tests, our "all-in-one" testers of the latest generation perform numerous additional tasks that go far beyond the range of functions of conventional luminaire testers:

  • Safety Tests
  • Function tests
  • Dimming functions via
    • analog
    • Buttons (touch)
    • DALI, DSI, DMX, Casambi and others
  • Camera evaluations, e.g. brightness and light color
  • Parameterization of ECGs/ECGs/LED Drivers
  • Flashing ECGs/ECGs/LED Drivers
Benefit from our many years of experience from over a thousand luminaire testing devices used worldwide.
From the selection of the suitable test device to the optimal adaptation of the power and interface terminals to the complete test setup or a completely integrated test system, SCHLEICH offers tailor-made solutions for reliable, economical and future-proof testing of your luminaire products of all kinds.

Future-proof testing systems for your luminaires

Safety test

  • Protective conductor resistance between PE terminal and any housing parts – even with 60Hz
  • Insulation resistance single-phase on L1, N and PE or three-phase on L1, L2, L3, N and PE
  • Insulation resistance between the mains terminals L1, L2, L3, N and interface connections
  • If required, high voltage test with AC, e.g., for UL – even with 60Hz
  • If required, high voltage test with DC
  • If required, leakage current test – even with 60 Hz
  • Compliant with all globally recognized standards

function test

  • Function test / Current consumption measurement starting from 1 mA, switchable to different phases
  • Power consumption measurement starting from 1 Watt
  • Power sources for LED modules
  • Voltage sources for LED modules
  • Testing of the emergency power operation of luminaires

Rail Connector Testing / Through-Wiring Testing

  • Testing of T- or cross connectors for light rails
  • Through-wiring test up to 7-pin and more
  • Wiring single-phase, three-phase and dimming cables
  • Test Methods
    • Contact resistance
    • Swapping
    • Interruption
    • Phase Switching
    • protective conductor resistance with 10 – 32 A
    • insulation resistance against the earth conductor and among each other
    • HVAC with safety current limited Test current of ≤ 3 mA (as far as possible); alternatively with ≤ 20 mA or ≤ 100 mA, if the leakage current of the test object is above 3 mA due to its design
    • HVDC with safety current limited Test current ≤ 12 mA

Interface Communication

  • DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface)
    • Reading of the EVG/ECG/LED driver data such as version of the software etc.
    • Writing and reading out of OEM data, such as luminaire serial number, order etc.
  • DSI (Digital Signal Interface)
  • DMX (Digital Multiplex)
  • Casambi
  • HUE
  • Zigbee
  • Matter over Thread, Homematic, Shelly, KNX and more...
  • Analog
  • Touch / Push
  • Cost savings:
safety-, function and interface communication directly via a test device! Full integration of interface communication into the test sequence.
No additional components, programming adapters or additional PC required!

Parameterization of the ECGs / ECGs / LED drivers

  • Parameter transmission for individual configuration of the luminaire
  • Parameterization in devices from a wide range of manufacturers

Evaluations with Camera

  • Brightness of individual LEDs
  • Light color of individual LEDs
  • Inspection of reflectors and diffusers

Integration into your IT

  • Central test plan storage on a server
  • Test plan creation independent of the test device at multiple workstations
  • Central test plan management
  • Reading and saving serial numbers
  • Integration of barcode / Data Matrix scanners
  • Label printing for luminaires and packaging
  • Communication with your ERP system (e.g., SAP, MS-Dynamics, ProAlpha…)
    •   Management of test orders
    •   Transfer of bills of material and information from your ERP system into the test plans
    •   Reporting back of test results and order data (such as serial number) to your ERP system
  • Central test result memory on a server
  • Various printing options for the test results
  • Statistical analyses

What do the abbreviations EVG and ECG stand for?

In the German language, EVG stands for Elektronisches Vorschaltger
ECG stands for Electronic Control Gear in the English language and is the translation of EVG.
